With much preparation, practice and study, Pharaoh is working to land the axel jump. Axels are notoriously difficult to do but they are some of the best techniques to see. No athletic skill is more important for a JBGOD to accomplish than speed and jumps. Will Pharaoh be the next JBSKATER to land an axel?? Stay in touch to find out. If you don’t know it by now, one of the hallmarks of being a JBGOD is to skate fast, do jumps and attempt some new stunts.
I’m a big fan of figure skating and I’ve been taking axel tips from Coach Michelle Hong on Instagram. I watched figure skating on Saturday mornings as a child back when all visual media was on local tv. This was before cable and satellite. Now that I’m roller skating as an adult I want to hit those jumps that we always saw in figure skating and especially in the Olympics. I couldn’t tell you many names from those days but I can tell you that the memories did stick. On the Instagram page for JBGODS I follow Coach Michelle Hong. For so long, I’ve wanted to hit jumps and my progress has been very slow.
Don’t let the previous sentence discourage you. It’s taken me a while to get the very basic jump that I always do at jb skating sessions here in Chicago. But, that’s because I haven’t worked hard enough to get to where I want to be. I just saw a video by Coach Michelle where she coaches one of her students to change the timing of his arms when closing the spin on his jump. I’m sure there is some very different dialogue for all of that in figure skating terms.
The Best Axel Tips Are Off Ice
Roller skaters, don’t worry. This stuff applies to us too. I’ve found that the best tips for securing the jumps that I’m after are geared towards training without skates on. Figure skaters and hockey players call it off-ice training. I’m not sure if there is a name for that by roller skaters. If not, we’ll create one. In the meantime, I encourage you to study off-ice training videos. If you don’t understand those, you can watch my videos and read my posts. Everything that I learn, I re-teach it, specifically tailored for JBSKATERS.
