Axels are the most difficult and most impressive jumps in the world of skating. Skating is fun to watch when skaters can perform big jumps, that’s what we want to see. Jumps will surely sell arena tickets. If you can not do these jumps yet, it’s ok. Don’t go out there and hurt yourself. See the section below that gives you advice on practicing and learning tricks.

Practicing The Axel
It’s best to prepare for this technique with no skates on. Whether you are a roller skater, inline skater or ice skater, your strongest practice is going to come from you working on that take off, spin and landing in your shoes. It’s not smart to only practice jumps with skates on. You won’t get those small pieces of information that you are missing.
Landing The Axel
This may be the most deceptive aspect of practicing any jump technique, landing. Your muscles and joints need to be strong enough to handle the weight of your body coming down at the speed of gravity. If you aren’t strong enough in every place to handle the landing, you’ll buckle every time. This can lead to some fast injuries that will last you a long time. A lack of landing strength will also keep you from taking off higher.
