Stay In Your Respective Lane
Faster skaters on the outside, slower skaters in the inside. This is the most popular unwritten rule in skating rink protocol. If you’re gonna move slow, get out of the way. No need to be in the wall, taking your time, when fast skaters are moving around you. Be cautious, look behind you before you dart to the left or right and keep the slow stuff in the middle. Stay in your respective lane.
Outside Lane For Fast Skaters
You don’t have to skate fast, of course not. If you choose to follow the slow path, it’s better to do so towards the middle. This is a question of safety and ultimately just being in the way. If you skate slow on the outside then people have to constantly go around you. Stay in the slow lane.
Slower Skaters On The Inside
It may seem counterintuitive to have the slower skaters work their way to the middle. The same can be said for newer skaters who can barely stand. It would make more sense for them to stay near the wall so they can hold themselves up.
