When Was JBGODS Started

Somebody did a web search to find out when was JBGODS started but the answer was not so clear. I can make it clear for you now. There are two separate creation dates for the JBGODS skate team and the JBGODS LLC. I formed the skate team in October of 2022. This was after the first two members talked to me, Pharaoh, about joining my team if I had one. Prior to this, I dedicated JBGODS to the history of our skate style in Chicago.

Was JBGODS Started As A Team or a Business??

We are both a team and a company. I created the entire organization based on interactions with the Chicago skate scene. When opportunity met knowledge and adequate preparation, I took the next step. You may wonder why I made a sudden turn inward and only focusing on my team members. As I said before, I created this organization, initially, to document and highlight the skaters who make up our community here in Chicago. However, people did not know me so well here despite my current reputation. Skaters new, old and those whom I admired and watched for several years rejected my acquaintance and filming. Finally, after one skater who I followed for maybe 6 years at the time waved me off when I tried recording him during a freestyle, I decided to focus on myself. I would no longer give where people didn’t want.

Are You A Videographer??

No, I am not a videographer, photographer or a cinematographer. I have a great amount of respect for all of those disciplines and I am a fan of all three as artforms. However, I only started those things because I wanted them to be done. The goal was to see the names and faces of historic Chicago skate figures in the textbooks of Chicago public schools.

Is Your Name JBGODS??

My name is Pharaoh. You may often see the GodKing Pharaoh, those are my title and name. Please, call me Pharaoh. My team and my company are named JBGODS.

The Future of JBSKATE Music

JBSKATE Music and the Orchestra

First, I’ll begin to incorporate orchestral instruments into JBSKATE Originals more heavily. This means that our songs will sound more like movie soundtracks than club bangers. JBSKATE Originals will have class and elegance. The sound that I’m going to make for us will have a place for any occasion or setting.

House Music for Skating

Second, Chicago is the home of House music, Chicago created House music. I give a huge and frequent nod of the hat to house music and house style by fusing those historic qualities into my work. The Book of Khepri shows this as a good example. Be sure and check that out on drop day.

Talking My Shit

Talking my shit about jumps and how they are really difficult to land on roller skates. Even the take-off is an anomaly that escapes human understanding. I think I’ve figured it out. There’s so much more to launching and landing an axel than just strength and height. There are several moving parts that work together to make this thing work. As a result, I’d like to make a personal challenge of mine public.

Axels in 2024 God Shit

I plan to land an axel before the end of 2024. Not only will I land this axel, but I’ll be able to do it on a regular basis. I’m gonna get so good at these jumps that it will be hard for me not to get them. As the leader of the JBGODS Skate Team, I have to show speed and a wide dynamic range when I’m on the skate floor. That range is growing further now.

Talking Team Axels in 2025 My Shit

My next challenge is to teach my entire team how to jump. It’s a requirement. Every JBGOD has to accept the challenge of learning to jump or begin to reconsider their positions on the team. That’s how serious Pharaoh is about this thing.

Pay attention. There is an ecological balance of good and evil in the earth and the heavens. With which side do you act? That is the question. On which terms do you live, evil or good?

A Sound Bite for Khepri

The Book of Khepri is another musical book that implants the probable existence of near and ancient gods on your mental radar. Think about it, know about it. Play the what-if game with me. What if god is real. What if other gods are real. Could gods go to war. What if gods can be born, live and die. I imagine what that must sound like, a community of gods. Well, we all get to imagine out loud.

Not Doing God Sh** In August

This is an update on dropping another album. August just was not going to work for me, that goal was a stretch. There was too much that I needed to learn at the time and I didn’t learn it all by my set deadline. As a result, JBSKATE Originals will not come out until the month of October. This is my execute decision and it is a much better decision. I’d rather take my time with this one and put out some music that other producers can use to create some good remixes.

You might have watched the news and noticed that Sha’Carri Richardson is making history again. According to APNEWS she finished the 100 meter race with a time of 10.71 seconds. She definitely won, and this win makes her the fastest woman in the world. I’m so glad to see her doing well. She was criticized so heavily for nothing and she continues to rise and shine.

Sha’Carri As An Inspiration

Sha’Carri is a leader for Black people everywhere. She is a great example of doing great things and doing them lawfully. She is the kind of example that I recognize and praise. There is no way that it is easy to do what she is doing. You don’t just happen to be the fastest woman in the world. This requires an immense amount of discipline. Winning at this caliber requires a commitment to training as hard as your body will allow you on a regular basis. Taking days off is not an option.

The Science of a Winner

It’s obvious that Sha’Carri understands something about running that most human beings do not. Time and time again, she steps on that track, beats her opponents and she beats them by a lot. What does this mean?? It means that being good is not good enough. Being great at your craft is not good enough. It’s absolutely encouraged to be serious about your craft and to involve yourself in deep thought about what you’re doing. One of the worst pieces of advice that I’ve heard skaters give people who are trying to learn a new trick is to not think about it. This is so untrue. You need to think about what you’re doing. When you think about what you are doing you have a better chance at understanding what you are doing.

No Good Ramen In Chicago

I’ve been to a few ramen restaurants in the city and it seems like there is no good ramen in Chicago. The restaurant that I went to yesterday disappointed me so badly. The store looked so neat and full of these electronic devices for requesting orders. But, I ordered a simple ramen with chicken and I did not expect what I was going to get. The noodles looked like they came out of a pack from the shelves of Walmart. They didn’t even make the noodles. Then, the chef used breaded chicken . Chunks of wet, breaded chicken were sitting in my soup. They were like some cheap popcorn chicken pieces that looked like blended meat. Who knows what animal it came from.

The Store Was Empty

I should have taken it as a sign when I noticed that there was only two other people in the restaurant. This is also misleading because there were about 6 people in the kitchen. I fully expected the best soup that I was ever going to get in the world. Speaking of the best soup ever, there is a place in Los Angeles that I went to all the time. Most days of the week there was a line out the door which stretched down the sidewalk in Little Tokyo. Located on 1st Street, across from the Miyako Hotel, sits Marugame Monzo. Good grace, I miss this restaurant so much. Their food is one of the reasons that I will move back to Los Angeles.

It’s a genre of its own, a sport and a lifestyle for skaters in Chicago. There will be at least two categories of access for the music posted here. I will start with non-exclusive licenses and exclusive licenses.

Non-Exclusive Music License

For those who don’t already know, a non-exclusive music license is one that is sold to more than one person. That means five different producers can pay JBGODS for the rights to use a song for a remix. Individually, we would agree that they can use our work for however long we agree upon. There are some advantages and disadvantages to this. Non-exclusive licenses normally cost less than other licenses, that’s the benefit. The most common disadvantage is that you don’t have much exclusivity with your sound because other producers may be using the exact same song to create remixes with.

Exclusive Music License

This is a very different deal. Here, you are purchasing the song, rights and all. You have all of the copyright authority unless we agree on different terms. If a song is posted as exclusive rights, then the availability will show “1” where as the non-exclusive would be unlimited. As I mentioned earlier, this deal costs more because I can only sell it once. You’re getting all of the rights to the song as if you wrote it yourself.

Over the years, I have come up with my own method of how to build a studio. Of course, I’ve only ever had the small home studios. However, I think this advice will still serve you if you are in the process of buying your first pieces of equipment for your own studio.

A Studio Needs Three Monitors

The first mistake that I made in the beginning was only having two monitors to listen to my music and mix tracks. The stereo image is a combination of the left, center and right channels. I spent years only using the left and right channels and having no real focus on the center channel. You don’t have to start with the best monitors, they don’t need to be expensive. They do, however, need to match your project settings.

Decide How You Will Mix

Decide how you are going to mix the majority of your music for the next year. If you plan on mixing most of your work in stereo, then focus on getting more monitors in your studio with LCR signal routing. This means having more than one monitor for the center channel, more than one monitor for the left channel and more than one monitor for the right channel. If you’re going to do the majority of your work in surround sound then you need to have all of the necessary equipment. You have to practice mixing in that environment. This means that you will need at least 5 monitors (left, center, right, left surround, right surround) and a sub. After you have done this, you should consider adding more monitors to each channel.

Few people know what it’s like to be an entrepreneur with a day job. Even fewer people understand the mind of a seriously ambitious entrepreneur. Maybe I’m just a seriously ambitious person altogether. I woke up again today, worried and wondering if I’m still employed. Wage labor is so annoying to me. However, the lesson that I’m learning from having a day job is to exercise my patience.

A Day Job Will Test Your Patience

It seems like the only way to get good at a thing is to test it. Putting yourself through test after test, especially during times where you just do not want to participate, really teaches the best lessons. I want to rush into wealth. Nothing would relieve me more than walking into my job and resigning. Every day feels like a good day to let go of wage labor, the money is not worth the effort. Daily, I remind myself that I still need to pay my bills. My assets don’t pay me enough yet.

An Entrepreneur Must Always Practice Patience

Patience is a virtue that will constantly be tested. My patience will be tested for the rest of my life. There is no getting away from it. So, I must use my day job now to make my mind more resilient. I must resist the urge to make hasty decisions that will lead to immediate loss.
