So There’s a New Demon in Town??

A new demon has arisen. JBSKATING has made its way across the country. The District of Columbia (DC) now has a new team call the JBDEMONS. It keeps getting better, day by day with JBSKATE. With more teams popping up across the country, what does this mean for JB?? What does this mean for Chicago?? Could there really be a team in DC?? Surely, their rinks don’t even have sessions the way they should for our skate style.

My students have become better than me. I had to simply get over it and accept that they are better. They are faster, stronger, smarter and overall just better than me in every single way

Never Outshine The Master

The 48 Laws of Power, which I believe in firmly, say to never outshine the master. I believe this is also a virtue of Stoicism which I study on a regular basis. Up until now, I’ve had the goal of excelling past the master. I had always thought this would be celebrated. I never took the master’s ego into account. Not only does the master get offended, but senior students get offended too. So, what do you do?? Create an imaginary ceiling for yourself and float beneath the skill of your counterparts??

New Generations

Maybe so, but I think a part of growing up is accepting that there is always a new generation. And there is always someone better than you. Always. So, I offer these solutions. Get better or get over it.

Time for Nashville Food

I got the chance to break fast in Nashville and I knew before I got there that I wanted tacos. The weather was a bit warm and rainy but that did not slow me down. I was on a mission.

Honest experience

I gotta be honest about my experience, 2 parts out of three were uncomfortable. I walked in this tiny little store and there was a man standing in the doorway staring at me. He didn’t even say anything, just looking at me. I think he finally asked, ‘can I help you’ or something odd to that degree. I was trying not to be smart ass, I thought it was obvious that I had come there to eat. So, he took my order, with me standing right there in the doorway. Didn’t offer a menu, didn’t offer more space or time to make a decision, although I didn’t need the time, the space would have been nice.

Part two

That was part one of three. I knew exactly what I wanted before I even saw the name of the restaurant, steak tacos, chips and red salsa. As you can see by the photos, I had fuckin hot cheese dip. And it was hot, to the touch. I’m placing my order with him, in the doorway, and I ask for chips and red salsa. He responds, ‘chips and queso?’. I’m like, no, chips and red salsa. He’s like, ‘it comes with chips and queso’. I’m like, alright gimme the cheese then. I didn’t want it but he insisted, I don’t argue with people preparing my food.

Part three

So, the chips were stale. That’s not a huge problem, you can always get new chips. But I wanted to mention that since he pressed the hot cheese sauce on me that I clearly didn’t want.

Seconds

Would I go back?? Yes. I surely hope the greeting process improves and that he allows customers to choose the sauce that they want.
